Well, If you are on a wired internet connection and you have
some other devices, you need on the internet, then one would really like to
have an ad hoc wireless connection, isn’t it? There are many ways to add the
capability onto the computer depending on the hardware configuration and the
software properties. And in Windows it’s a bit easier to set up a WIFI hotspot
for the convenience as you can see below.
Suppose, you want to share the internet from your computer A
to your other computer B. You will need to see that these conditions are met:
- You are connected to internet on computer A through Ethernet Wire or a Modem (it can be of any type, like a USB internet connector).
- For this
tutorial, you must be running Window 7, but will work on any Windows OS, after
the XP- OS.
- For
hardware configuration, a WIFI Network Card is the minimum requirement.
After these pre-requisites are met, you are ready to start
creating your own WIFI Hotspot.
So, first of all:
Go to Manage wireless networks by on computer A:
Either of these two ways is good.
- Going to the notification panel and click the
WIFI button, then click the Open Network and Sharing Center, then on the
left side of the window, click on the Manage wireless networks.
- Going to the Start Menu, and on
the search bar, type Manage wireless networks.
Create an ad hoc network
Then you will see a window asking you how you would like to
add a network, click on the Create an ad hoc network, then on the new
window give your network a name of your liking and the password too. You need
to save this network if you are going to use it again. Let the security
type remain on the default format i.e. WPA2-Personal.
Checking your network
Now the network is ready to work. But before that and to be
sure check the notification on the Taskbar for the wireless button/icon. You will
see “Waiting for users” notification on computer A. After this
check the client computer B, for the available networks. Click connect
on the network name which you just created and when you check back on
the Host computer A, to see it is connected.
Wireless Network Connection Properties
Now, go to the computer A, right-click on the network
you created, properties window will open then click the Sharing tab. You will
see, “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet
connection’, select it. The other selection is optional. And click OK.
You are all set to use your WIFI Hotspot. Congrats!
What do you think of your new WIFI Hotspot?
