There was a recent development, in
England, where people reported fake cell
phone towers showing up on their phones, which is a lot like a phishing email
or something in that line. They say that it’s like a cell phone tower
interceptor which tricks the phone into logging into their service.
This eavesdropping technology
called an IMSI grabber(International Mobile Subscriber Identity) or Stingray
can intercept all the information being transferred between your phone and the cell tower. Sky
News, alongwith GMSK Cryptophone from Germany has found out many instances of
its use in London. And nobody’s being able to pinpoint who is behind this
operation. These gadgets named
Stingray can be obtained for a minimum of thousand pounds from the web. It’s amazing
what technology can accomplish!
